Montessori education was developed years ago by Dr. Maria Montessori. She studied children from birth to adulthood, specifically those with special needs. She believed that children since birth have an Absorbent Mind. They are unconsciously learning new things and picking up everything that goes on around them. Later on in a child's life the unconscious mind becomes conscious and they now know everything that they are learning. Montessori environments allow children to build their mind through exploration. Children are able to engage in their world as early as the first year of their life. Today, Montessori classrooms are open all around the world and the method has been proven to be successful over the years. Montessori education focuses on building independence, freedom, order, concentration, and coordination for a child. It allows for a child to learn the natural way and provides the basis for children to become successful members of society.
